WhatsApp update began to
roll out last evening for iPhone owners and it is bringing some
much-needed relief, especially for those users who often find themselves
in areas with bad or low data connectivity.
The new update is tagged
as version 2.17.1. Apart from the usual bug fixes, it adds the ability to
queue messages when offline and also raises the sharing limit to 30 photos or
videos at a time.
Those of you who are on Android may find this humorous
and downright laughable but this is a big deal for the iOS camp.
If you frequently find
yourself in areas with low data connectivity and you own an iPhone, you will
see a washed-out ‘Send’ icon. This is because the iOS app would need to connect
to the network after being launched and will only let you type and send if it
is connected to a data network.
The other
important update in WhatsApp version 2.17.1 is the ability to share more than
10 items. Yes WhatsApp for iOS will now let you spam your friends, family and
groups with the ability to send up to 30 video or photo forwards in one go.
Lastly,
there is another tiny little addition that should make life easier for those
using an iPhone with low internal storage. The new update now packs in a handy
tool that lets you peep into individual chats or group chat to check which one
is hogging up most of your storage. The same will also let you pick and choose
which GIFs, images or text you would like to delete which will surely help you
trash all those nonsensical group conversations all at once or go by specific
users or types of content.
The update
is about 91.2MB in size and is available only for users who have iOS 7 or
higher installed.
